A Mother's Fight for Justice and Safety

My name is Gurpreet Singh, formerly Gurpreet Rai, and I’m a mother, a teacher, and a fierce advocate for my two sons. I never imagined that protecting my children from danger would lead to a relentless battle against a system that should have helped us, not hurt us.

​​

After my boys disclosed their father was driving with open alcohol in the car, I acted immediately, calling Peel Police’s non-emergency line, terrified for their safety. I was met with indifference from the system, despite doing what any parent should:

Act to protect their children.

Since then, I’ve faced overwhelming legal and financial hardships, emotionally exhausted and left fighting institutions that continue to dismiss or enable coercive control, legal abuse, and neglect. My sons have been left to wonder why the people they trusted the most failed them.

I've faced retaliation for speaking the truth, advocating under Keira’s Law, and pleading with courts and agencies to prioritize my children’s safety. What I’ve encountered instead is silence, loopholes, and stigma, especially around mental health.

Despite everything, I remain committed to ensuring my boys grow up knowing their mother never stopped fighting for their safety, justice, and well-being. I’m doing everything I can, but I cannot do it alone.

The end goal of all this work is to get the Ontario Ombudsman to conduct why they have such a terrifyfing amount of power that nobody is actually holding accountable! Petition coming soon!
